Back in January, Away Message hosted a 4 day, 472 mile journey down the California coast. It was the perfect opportunity for Sarah Sturm, Kate Courtney, Anna Yamauchi, Maude Farrell, Amity Rockwell and Sophie Vitzthum von Eckstadt to get together and share some base miles before their long racing season ahead.

The Other Side
At an Athens airport hotel, at the end of my 2023 season, I sat on some steps that led to the shore of the Mediterranean. Suddenly, I was on the other side of the season, running through the past 7 months in my mind -all the details of each training block along the way, the high moments and rough ones, the frustrations, the travel, and the cumulative effort into the whole thing.But right now, I don’t want to write about the details of the whole thing.

Christopher recounts the rollercoaster of emotions during Cape Epic, from the triumph of the prologue win to the devastating setback of stage 1. Despite challenges, they embraced vulnerability and perseverance, rallying to win four stages and ultimately clinch victory by a narrow margin.

The Long Traverse film follows World Champion mountain biker Christopher Blevins as he introduces a new FKT (Fastest Known Time) route in the Los Padres National Forest. Through this effort, the film showcases his changing relationship to the land and highlights the environmental and social issues facing the area as well as the beauty of Central California.

Sarah Sturm had one hell of a 2022 racing season with consistent results in the Lifetime Series(tag) leading to a third place in the series overall. It was not all fun and games though, nothing worth doing ever is but there is enjoyment in the pursuit. Sarah is carrying her learnings and motivation into the 2023 season and looking for more fun along the way.
